In line with the vision of National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman/President Prospero “Butch” Pichay, an association primarily for Filipino chess arbiters is being formed by this author to assist the federation in regulating chess arbitration in the country.
This organization will be known as the Chess Arbiters Union of the Philippines (CAUP). All active chess arbiters in the country (national arbiter, regional arbiter, club arbiter), together with accredited Filipino FIDE Arbiters are urged to join this association to gain recognition and accreditation from NCFP.
Henceforth, all tournament arbiters officiating in all chess competitions sanctioned and/or organized by NCFP must be certified members of CAUP.
An inaugural general assembly of all CAUP members will be held at Department of Education (DepEd) Bulwagan ng Karunungan, UL Complex in Pasig, Metro Manila at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 18, 2012, to elect the officers who will run the affairs of the organization.
Meanwhile, an interim Chess Arbiter’s Commission, directly under the wings of CAUP and supervision of NCFP, will be formed to set up the framework and guidelines of the Chess Arbiters Union of the Philippines. The interim commission will be composed of Filipino FIDE International Arbiters (Gene Poliarco, Rolando Yutuc, Erwin Carag, Elias Lao, Jr. and Ilann Perez).
Foremost among the objectives of CAUP, aside from setting up the standard of tournament officiating and classification of arbiters, is the unification of all present chess arbiters’ organization in the Philippines.
I would like to extend therefore, this invitation to all chess arbiters (National Arbiter, Regional Arbiter, Club Arbiter and FIDE Arbiter) to attend the forthcoming general assembly meeting on February 18, 2012.
