IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia continued his winning ways by defeating Ryan Christian Magtabog in round 10 while WFM Marie Antoinette San Diego suffers her first loss in the on-going 2013 National age-group chess championships held at Taguig City University auditorium in Taguig City, Metro Manila.

IM Garcia's luck was temporarily interrupted by IM Haridas Pascua when they agreed to a draw in their ninth round encounter, his second draw so far. Garcia turns his sight to Magtabog, his next round opponent whom he defeated convincingly. Garcia has now 18 points for eight wins and two draws going into the last five rounds of the prestigious competition. He is followed by FM Pascua with fourteen points who agreed to a draw with Lennon Hart Salgados in the tenth round.

In the girls division, WFM San Diego WFM loses to WFM Jan Jodilyn Fronda in the ninth round then bounced back with an important win against the out-of-form Janelle Mae Frayna in the tenth round. WFM San Diego maintains the lead with 16 points for eight wins and one loss followed by WFM Fronda with 14 points for six wins, two draws and one loss.

The top three winners in each division will earn the right to represent the country in the ASEAN age-group chess championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand and in the 2013 Asian Youth championships in Marshdad, Iran.
