2014 ASIAN YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Philippine National Master Giovanni Mejia bagged the gold medal, the first for the country, after the 7th and final round of the Under 18 Open-Rapid Category of the Asian Youth Chess Championship held Friday at the Hotel Park Plaza in Shahdara, New Delhi, India.

NM Mejia registered 5.5 points after seven rounds of play after splitting the point with Karimov Alisher of Tajikistan in the last round the same output of Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad of India but whom he beat in the fifth round and therefore the tie break by this rule.

The tournament is held annually under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and the World Chess Federation (FIDE). This event is being hosted by the All India Chess Federation for the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18, Open and Girls Categories and will take place 6th (arrival) to 14th (departure) November 2014. The country sent complete entries according to National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman/President Prospero “Butch” Pichay, Jr.
